Sleep outside, they said… it’ll be fun, they said. I’m never sleeping again šØš±
Camping. Even the word itself sounded peaceful to Emma.
After months of stress, endless workdays, and the noise of city life, a weekend in the mountains sounded like
exactly what she needed. So when her best friend Jake called and said,
ā Weāre going camping in Colorado this weekend. You in?
Emma smiled immediately.
ā Absolutely.
Jake was the adventurous one in the group ā fearless, confident, always chasing excitement. Sarah was warm and energetic,
the kind of person who could make strangers laugh within minutes. Mike was the joker, always filming everything for social
media and turning every trip into chaos.
But sometime after midnight, something changed. Emma woke suddenly. At first, she didnāt know why.
Then she heard it. Footsteps. Slow⦠heavy footsteps outside the tent. She froze.
The fire outside had almost died, leaving only weak orange light flickering through the darkness. Beside her, Sarah was
asleep. Crunch. Another step. Emma slowly reached for her flashlight.
Then something brushed against the side of the tent. Sarahās eyes snapped open.
ā Emma⦠did you hear that?
Before Emma could answer, Mikeās voice came from the neighboring tent.
ā Guys?
He sounded nervous. Jake unzipped his tent and stepped outside with a flashlight.
ā Probably a deer, ā he called quietly.
But his voice didnāt sound confident anymore. Emma carefully stepped out beside him.
The forest looked completely different at night. The trees no longer seemed peaceful. They stood like giant black walls
surrounding the campsite. Jake pointed the flashlight toward the woods. Nothing.
Then suddenlyā CLANG!
A metal pan crashed onto the ground near the fire. Sarah screamed. Mike stumbled backward.
ā WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?!
Jake swung the flashlight wildly across the trees. And for one brief second⦠They all saw it. A figure standing between the
trees. Tall. Motionless. Watching them. Then it disappeared. Nobody spoke. The silence became unbearable.
ā Weāre leaving tomorrow morning, ā Sarah whispered immediately.
Jake nodded slowly. Nobody argued. They tried returning to their tents, but sleep never came.
The forest felt alive now. Every sound seemed wrong. Branches cracking. Leaves moving. Whispers of wind that almost
sounded like voices.
Around 3 a.m., Emma heard it again. But this time⦠it wasnāt footsteps. It was a girlās voice. Soft. Weak. Somewhere deep in
the forest.
ā Help meā¦
Emma sat upright instantly. Sarah heard it too.
ā Oh my Godā¦
The voice came again.
ā Pleaseā¦
Mike looked terrified.
ā Tell me you guys hear that too.
Jake grabbed the flashlight.
ā Are you insane?! ā Sarah snapped. ā Donāt go out there!
But Emma was already standing. The voice sounded young. Hurt. Afraid. She couldnāt ignore it.
A few moments later, all four of them slowly walked into the forest with flashlights shaking in their hands.
The deeper they went, the colder the air became. The trees blocked the moonlight completely. Everything felt wrong.
Then Mike suddenly stopped walking.
ā Guysā¦
He pointed ahead. An old cabin stood hidden between the trees. Its wood was rotting. Windows broken. The front door
slightly open. Emmaās stomach tightened.
ā Why would there be a cabin all the way out here?
Nobody answered. The girlās voice had stopped. Jake pushed the door open slowly. The cabin smelled wet and rotten.
Inside, dust covered everything. An old chair lay broken on the floor. A rusted lantern hung from the ceiling. Then Sarah
gasped.
ā Look at this. The continuation read in the comments ā¼ļøšā¼ļøš
On the wall hung dozens of old photographs. Most were faded beyond recognition. But one photo looked newer.
Emma stepped closer. Her blood turned cold. The picture showed four teenagers standing beside the exact same lake.
Smiling. Camping. And behind them⦠barely visible between the trees⦠stood the same tall figure they had seen earlier.
At the bottom of the photo, written in black marker, were the words: THEY NEVER LEFT.
Mike backed away immediately.
ā Nope. Nope. Weāre done. Weāre leaving NOW.
Then suddenlyā BANG!
The cabin door slammed shut behind them. Sarah screamed.
Jake rushed to the door and pulled it open again. Outside, the forest was silent. Too silent.
Then Emma noticed something near the doorway. A small teddy bear. Old. Dirty. Its stitched smile faded with age.
And attached to it was a tiny bracelet with one name written on it. LILY Jake stared at it in horror.
ā Thatās impossibleā¦
Emma looked at him.
ā What?
Jakeās face had gone pale.
ā Ten years ago⦠a little girl disappeared near this lake. Her name was Lily Carter.
Nobody ever found her. The air inside the cabin suddenly felt freezing. Then the voice came again. Much closer this time.
ā Jakeā¦
Everyone froze. The voice was outside. Right beside the cabin. Slowly⦠Emma turned toward the doorway.
And there she stood. A little girl in a white dress. Long wet hair covering half her face. Holding another teddy bear in her
arms. She looked directly at Jake.
ā You left me thereā¦
Jakeās flashlight slipped from his hand.
Emma stared at him.
ā Jake⦠what is she talking about?
Jake couldnāt breathe. Tears filled his eyes.
ā We came here once before⦠when we were teenagersā¦
Sarah whispered:
ā What?
Jake shook violently.
ā Lily was my little sister.
The room fell silent.
ā I told her to stay near the lake while I went with my friends⦠and when I came back⦠she was gone.
Emma felt sick. The girl slowly stepped closer. Her voice became colder.
ā You promised youād come back for meā¦
Then suddenly every flashlight went out. Darkness swallowed the cabin. Sarah screamed. Mike cursed loudly. And
somewhere inside that darknessā¦
The little girl laughed. A slow⦠Broken⦠Terrifying laugh.
